This came to my attention. Am I missing something or is this a rather abrupt end to the community edition?
Seeing as the community edition is in the 6 branch, we have exactly one week to find an alternative to OTRS it seems?
OTRS community edition is dead?

Yup..no security updates will be the main concern..
Gonna take a look at Otobo..a fork of otrs
However since its fork of otrs, not sure if this will impact the development / progress of Otobo itself

Re: OTRS community edition is dead?
I mean it's up to them to maintain this "free" version, to be sure, but this is all extremely short notice and not very elegant way of going about cutting support for this...
Also currently looking into OTOBO. It seems to have it's own maintenance following it's own versioning.
I don't think (and hope) it relies on "upstream" OTRS 6 updates.
Migrating to this is significantly less work then to something else entirely.

In my opinion it would be great if not every consultant runs it own fork but to support one of the existing ones (e.g. Znuny or OTOBO).
