Upgrade/Update and retain customized files

Post by PhyrePhoX »

Hi,

when i upgrade Znuny OTRS, there is a script that transfers settings and some files.
However, the other day i noticed that my motd file was NOT transferred.
How can i make sure i can transfer ALL customized files? Do i need to keep my own "log" or need to run a diff versus a "virgin" deployment?
or did i miss something in the documentation?

Thank you!

Hi,

The easiest way is to package your custom files as an add-on. This is no rocket science and can be easily done.

Use a test system - always.

but imho this needs to be reflected in the documentation better. This essentially means ANY customization will be lost in an update, unless you use a package?

Hi,

Nothing will be lost except you edit an original file that will be overridden with a new version. If you have your custom files properly created (.pm, .tt in Custom/, CSS with your own files and registration) nothing will be lost.

EDIT:

The legacy manual describes it pretty well: https://doc.znuny.org/doc/manual/develo ... sions.html
