Change SMTP server

Post by RTPalmer »

Hi,

We have a few OTRS installations with a mix of versions across 5,5s and 6. I have been asked by the infrastructure team to change the outbound SMTP Server. I can see how to do this in our OTRS 6 installs by changing the appropriate attribute in the Admin Console and I then get prompted to deploy the change in OTRS.

What I am hoping someone can tell me is if the process is the same for OTRS 5 and 5s? Or do I for example need to restart a service or job manually.

Regards

Russell

Hi,

it is nearly the same in 5 + 6
https://doc.otrs.com/doc/manual/admin/6 ... html#email

depending on your system it might be a local MX or you use the GUI.
Sending sendings via SMTP are in the system configuration Core::Sendmail
receiving either local MX or POP/IMAP

Check the docs as mentioned above

Hi Wurzel,

Thanks for the info you provided. What I am trying to find out is if there is a difference once I change the setting. In that does OTRS 5 and 5S have the same mechanism as 6 that prompts you to deploy the change live. Or is there a difference where some part of OTRS 5 or 5S needs to be manually restarted for the change to take effect.

Regards

In OTRS 5 you don't have to deploy the sysconfig. When you save the changes they are effective immediately...

Is 5s the same as 5 or the same as 6? As I am not sure when the deploying of changes came in.

Hello Russell,

OTRS 5s is a minor version of OTRS 5. The renaming was just a marketing move - probably - based on Apple's product naming guideline. Most people just call it OTRS 5.

OTRS 6 is a new major version with new features. The deployment of system configurations came with OTRS 6, which also got renamed into ((OTRS)) Community Edition — but that's another story.

Best regards

OTRS 5S was a minor release during the OTRS 5 release cycle which added some new functionality to the system. Also some fixes and enhancement in the security area like improvemnts on encryption and signing.

Thats why the S was choosen for Security...
"Production": OTRS™ 8, OTRS™ 7, STORM powered by OTRS
