OTRS DB Migration

Post by Shadey212 »

Hello everyone,

I am writing to you because we are facing a challenge which we are not sure how to handle and I would like to ask you for an advice...

Currently, we have OTRS Community Version (4.0.13), which has several millions tickets in the DB, and while most of them are already archived, there are some tickets which are not. At the same time, we are working on an Upgrade, so we have created a new DB and instance for Znuny Fork (6.0.32), which is currently in the testing phase.

The issue we have now: We need to migrate all tickets within last Fiscal Year (FY2020: 1. 03. 2020 - 31. 3. 2021) from old OTRS DB, to new OTRS DB. Is that technically possible without causing any compatibility issues? Or would it be easier to build the new OTRS on top of the old one, so the new OTRS would inherit the old DB?

I hope this explanation is enough.

Thank you very much for any advice.

Hello Filip,

you can delete all tickets which are not needed any more.
Afterwards you can migrate from OTRS 4 to OTRS 5 and then from OTRS 5 to the last Znuny version (6.0.33).
There is more information on https://doc.znuny.org/doc/manual/admin/ ... ating.html.

In our environment it worked.
There were only some minor problems: The ACLs and process tickets didn't work after the upgrade so we exported them before and imported them afterwards.

It doesn't matter if some tickets are archived.

You can't use a OTRS 4 database with OTRS 5 or OTRS 6.

Hi,

If this is the case it's a bug. Usually, neither ACLs nor process tickets need special handling, except that the parameter for some transition actions changes from version 5 to 6.
