I would also like the idea to have formal long numbers for communication with customers, but internally we often use the ticket ID from the URL at the telephone if we talk about a ticket, because our real ticket number is much to long to talk about.
Ideally one could also activate a Ticket ID search field in the top level toolbar for agents.
