Microsoft (outlook.office365.com) POP3 timeouts

Post by glorang »

Hello fellow Znuny users,

Just wanted to check with you if there are any other users who are - since a week or two - receiving intermittent timeouts when popping mailboxes at Microsoft from outlook.office365.com, those are visible as:

Cron email

Code: Select all

Subject: OTRS Scheduler Daemon Cron: MailAccountFetch
Error: Timeout of 600 seconds reached, killing child process!
System log

Code: Select all

Mon Jun 16 10:33:05 2025 (Europe/Brussels)	error	OTRS-otrs.Console.pl-Maint::PostMaster::MailAccountFetch-10	There was an error executing Execute() in Kernel::System::Console::Command::Maint::PostMaster::MailAccountFetch: Error: Timeout of 600 seconds reached, killing child process!
Mon Jun 16 10:22:09 2025 (Europe/Brussels)	error	OTRS-otrs.Console.pl-Maint::PostMaster::MailAccountFetch-10	CommunicationLog(ID:26790591,AccountType:-,AccountID:-,Direction:Incoming,Transport:Email,ObjectLogType:Connection,ObjectLogID:27134297)::Kernel::System::MailAccount::POP3S => POP3S: Can't connect to outlook.office365.com
Communication log

Code: Select all

1		Kernel::System::MailAccount::POP3S	Open connection to 'outlook.office365.com' (xxx@abc.com).	16/06/2025 10:22:09
2		Kernel::System::MailAccount::POP3S	POP3S: Can't connect to outlook.office365.com
Everything works, there is just some delay from time to time on popping the mailbox and a lot of those "MailAccountFetch" mails.

Just checking if it's us or something more general at Microsoft.

Thanks,
Geert

Hi,

Have you outbound firewalls rule applied and if so how do the look for POP3?
The message "Can't connect xx" is pretty straightforward: there is no (technical) connection possible. The root cause can be outbound restriction, inbound at Microsoft (rate limit?) or DNS related.
