Email Config (inbound)

Post by gangaskan »

i'm having issues reciving Emails to OTRS. they reach the inbox of the user i'm using on our exchange 2003 server, however, i am lost as to how to link them together. i've done my searching for the majority of my custom install, however, i'm at a standstill with this.

we are using 2003 without pop, just SMTP. i figured out sending Emails from OTRS and the user account associated with it and i have it pulling information from Active Directory (pulling customer information and login under customer.pl) no accounts for the index other than my admin account.

is there any advantage for receiving email? can, the user reply to it via email and it updates the ticket? is that something that is even remotely possible?

i have a link on the initial email setup where people can click and use the interface to update the ticket, and i haven't done much otherwise.

Hi,
for inbound mail:

either you create a mailbox on exchange, enable POP or IMAP and use "Postmaster Mail Account"
or you're receiving support mails directly on the OTRS host and using a mailbox there and then again "Postmaster Mail Account" or procmail, ...
Please see the docs on the possibilities

Hope that helps

gangaskan, you may be already aware, yet i thought of putting it here though. once you configure the mail account, all your mails will be removed once the relevant tickets are created. hence if you need to retain the emails as well, you need to create another mailbox and forward the emails there before tickets are created.

that's the intended effect.
