Eaten typed characters

Post by HervE »

Hello,

After 3 months of OTRS use in production, we're quite happy with it.

But still an annoying thing to me is: when I type characters in any OTRS window, it happens that from time to time a character is "eaten". It is not taken at all, as if I had never typed it.
You may advise me to take off my mittens :D but no way, it still regularly happens, only in OTRS.

Have you experienced it too?

Is it due to Apache, as a colleague of mine suggested?

What can I do to solve this problem?

Regards,
HervE

I have got the same issue here. This is rather something you´d want to research at the CKeditor side, since this is the typical backend at the ticket window.
For some reason this happens on some computers more often than on others and on a few it never did.
Since we use MS SCCM for deploying patches, JRE, etc. this makes it even more weird. All computers are the same.

Thank you ferrosti.

You confirm me it is not due to OTRS in itself, but its architecture and background.

However, I'd like to do what possible to solve this.

What do you mean with "CKeditor"?
A look at http://ckeditor.com makes me understand this must be the rich text editor included into OTRS to write mails and notes, right?

I have to say the problem of eaten characters does not only appear in the editor, but in all input textboxes too!

You are right, CKEditor is used for richtext editing. I have already had a look at their bug reports, but there was nothing open or ever been discussed.
I cannot confirm missing chars in other input fields. We have never experienced this.

Hello everybody,

Still this annoying problem - especially considering that customers receive unproper messages.

Any idea anybody?

I have never experienced this myself, but some users in my company have. It is when they are using CKeditor. Never been able to replicate it myself :P

Thank you for your answer.

Like I said, I noticed it occurs not only in the CKEditor zone, but in every OTRS textbox :(

I assume this happens to input fields that have some jscript code running in the background.
Can you evaluate this and pin it down to some certain browser?

Here it seems not to be that worse using Firefox, rather than IE7. Switching to Firefox on Terminal Server is no option for us, though.

Thank you for your answer ferrosti.

I forgot to say I use it with IE8. (So I included it in my signature now.)

I will give it a try with Firefox and will let you know.

I only use Chrome and have never experienced the issue here.

But the users who are reporting it are using IE8 ;)

Maybe I will switch over to IE8 *shudders* for a while, see if I can replicate the issue.

I will stay with Firefox because I don't experience this problem with this browser.

However, a few minor things are disturbing with Firefox.
Shortcuts for instance. With IE I used to press Alt+G to Submit a mail (or a note), now I can't.
