After reading a great article here : http://www.definit.co.uk/2011/07/instal ... rver-2008/ I decided to experiment with linux to see if it really was faster.
Process was simple:
Install OTRS on new server
SQL DUMP
Rar up attachments
copy of config's
Restore data and attachments.
Just thought I would share some performance info after our production system upgrade on the weekend.
Both servers are virtual and hosted on the same host and have identical configs; dual processors and 2GB of Ram.
We create around 1000 tickets per day 7 days a week and have up to 35 concurrent agents. Database is around 700 MB
We were running under Windows 2003/ MYSQL and moved to Ubuntu 11.04 (64bit)
From support assessment before:
KEY VALUE TIME COMMENT
Insert Time: 10000 3 s

Update Time: 10000 6 s Ok
Select Time: 10000 6 s Ok
Delete Time: 10000 5 s Ok
Multiplier: * 1 s
And After:
Result: SQL
KEY VALUE TIME COMMENT
Insert Time: 10000 1 s

Update Time: 10000 2 s

Select Time: 10000 2 s

Delete Time: 10000 2 s

Multiplier: * 1 s
Have had lots of comments this morning that people are noticing it is definitely quicker. MySQL dump also went from about 6 minutes to 1 minute.
Cheers
