HOw to upgrade OTRS from 3.0.5 to the latest version

How can I upgrade my OTRS system (3.0.5) to the latest version for free?
I am using windows device. How much time does this take to upgrade the same? and will my previous data be saved?

Also can you give me the major difference between the 3.0.5 and latest version (features)?

Well... it's kind of hard since there are no official instructions. The process is very very delicate and you will need to make several tests on another machine before taking it to production level.

At first these seems very simple and straight forward.

Back up your database
Back up your configuration
Back up the OTRS folder, all of it.
Uninstall OTRS
Install the new version of OTRS but do not run the web configuration.
Re-install your previous database and config files.

The problem is that as far as I know, versión 3.0.X and Version 3.1.X have a slightly different database structure, and since there is no updater for windows (unlike linux), this is were you'll find lots of problems like: loss of data or corruption.

I've been trying to get a proper set of instructions or some help but to no avail... not even here on the forums. So If you find a way, please share.

I've been looking at both of them and for some reasons it doesen't work.

- Like I've said before, the UPGRADING file is meant for linux systems.
- I haven't been able to execute the SQL scripts that update the database. They all fail at some point.

I've been stuck with this for quite some time and I all get are errors and data corruption. Its amazing how difficult is to do what should be a routinary task. The lack of official interest and information (documentation) is mind blowing.

What do you mean whith lack of official interest? This is a community forum, not an support channel. If you wan't commercial support you need to buy it.

There are thousands of installations and people who managed to work with these instructions.

By official interest I mean at least a TXT document meant for windows.
