Can't apt-get update

While trying to resolve some of my other setup problems I have notice that when I try to "apt-get update" , I get the following response...

W: Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

However I can ping the outside world, checked my firewall system (PFSense) and it is set to allow any outbound.

Any ideas?
