New to OTRS

Hi Everyone... Just a general question, basically trying to determine whether OTRS will be the right fit for me...

For configuration on the Opensource version of OTRS 3.3, if I need to add custom fields to "Customers", and other areas to enter the information I require, is this all needed to be done through coding, or is there a front-end GUI that I am able to install, or web interface I can use, or something like that.
I am busy reading through the pages and pages of manuals right now, and I am finding a lot of information, but there is a lot I am still looking for.

It is done via chaning the table layout via SQL + changing the config in Config.pm
