Putting copyright and registered symbols in text and textarea fields

I just installed OTRS 5.0.13 and ITSM 5.0.13 and I am trying to enter the registered (®) and copyright (©) symbols in text and text area fields. I am able to enter them when I edit a config item, but the symbols show up as '?' when the record is displayed and subsequently edited. I am able to enter and display these symbols in my OTRS 4.0.7 environment.

Is there a parameter I need to add to the text and textarea definitions in my CI schemas, or a value I need to set/change in sysconfig?
