Memory recomendation on split servers scenario

Hi to everyone.

I am experimenting with an installation (vbox) where one server runs as the application server (OTRS 3.3.10), and one server is the database server (MySQL) Both systems are Ubuntu 14 Servers under VBOX. The host system is a I5 with 16Gb. When I used 4Gb memory on both systems things were rather slow. Especially import operations as well as ticket data entry. When I raised both systems at 6Gb each, things were much better. However I wonder. What would it be a good-recommended memory configuration for each system?
