I wonder if it is possible and makes sense to run both the stable 3.3.10 and the upcoming 4.x on one server.
Is there a major database change that blocks doing that?
How to migrate from one to the other while keeping downtime low ...
Most installations will wait for a later stable release before they switch over, I assume.
We're still in the rc-phase with OTRS HelpDesk 4.x ... I just wonder.
OTRS HelpDesk: 3.x and 4.x in parallel?

Is not practical. Does not make sense. Probably will not even work.
OTRS 6.0.x (private/testing/public) on Linux with MySQL database.

So how to introduce 4.x into a live system that is in daily use?
You can only flip over and hope you don't hit any bugs ...
If I create and edit X tickets in the new 4.x ... how to step back down to 3.3.x if I have to (and get these tickets migrated back as well) ?
Is there a "Plan B" somewhere

No. but if you must, test with a distribution list email address that goes to both boxes. The new tickets will be generated at Production and Test so you won't lose the ticket creation. But you will lose correspondence.

Thanks, good suggestion.crythias wrote:No. but if you must, test with a distribution list email address that goes to both boxes. The new tickets will be generated at Production and Test so you won't lose the ticket creation. But you will lose correspondence.
I went for it and did backups of my OTRS-VM today ... now I went through the upgrade and migration within a clone of that VM.
So far things are looking good ...
