OTRS migration possibilities?

Post by Ralph »

Hello,

Current we have a windows server which is running OTRS version 3.3.9 / mysql. We installed a new server using Linux (CentOS 7) using OTRS version 5/MariaDB.

How easy would it be to migrate everything from one to the other? Not necessarily the old/existing tickets but rather the settings (queues, customers etc.). I've looked at a few OTRS migration how-to's but it seems quite tricky to migrate everything, even more so because I go from Windows/MySQL/OTRS 3.3.9 to a different server using CentOS 7/MariaDB/OTRS 5.

you have to follow the full migration path with all versions

3.3.9 -> 4.0.latest -> 5.0.latest

Technically there is no much difference if you are switch to another server / OS

Also you could buy expert help
"Production": OTRS™ 8, OTRS™ 7, STORM powered by OTRS
"Testing": ((OTRS Community Edition)) and git Master

Don't worry about mysql -> mariadb, that works like a charm.

However windows -> linux might be a bit more problematic. I'd recommend using a backup from windows and restore it to a linux server with the same framework (as windows is not supported after 4.x) and upgrade there.
Currently using: OTRS 6.0.14 -- MariaDB -- Ubuntu 16 LTS

Thanks, the issue with expert help is that you need to buy their full solution which is simply to expensive for what we do with OTRS. It's a shame there is not something like 'remote migration assistance'.

I think I will end up copying all settings by hand to the new server and let everyone finish their current. tickets in the old system while we get new tickets in the new system. Mostly because I cannot fix migration issues one at a time because of downtime it brings with it.

There are some other companies that provide OTRS support... A short and incomplete list is available at viewtopic.php?f=104&t=8247&p=89605#p89605
