Hi everyone,
I’m a new user here. I’ve been using OTRS 5.0.16 on Debian 9 for years, but it's time to move to a more up-to-date system. I successfully upgraded to Debian 10 and then to Debian 11 — no issues, and OTRS 5.0.16 continued to work flawlessly.
Now I’d like to migrate the OS to Debian 12. Before doing that, I upgraded OTRS from version 5.0.16 to 6.0.14. My goal is to migrate OTRS to Znuny 6.0, but after the upgrade, the system no longer recognizes the database.
I inherited this OTRS setup — the previous admin installed it under /usr/share/otrs, and I’ve kept it that way during the upgrade to OTRS 6.
Has anyone encountered a similar issue? Any advice or guidance would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
Pidi

Re: From otrs 6.0.24 to Znuny 6.0.31
Hi,
The installation below /usr/shar/otrs is AFAIK part of the Debian package. At Znuny, we are affiliated with this package and always follow the documentation. I know that the Debian package maintainer works on the migration parts but I can't tell how it's working.

Re: From otrs 6.0.24 to Znuny 6.0.31
... you might want to consider to use the "real" package from znuny and do not use the debian maintainers version. It is usually out of date. Many dependencies may not work, and official documentation from znuny is in specific points worthless in this case. I had troubles with old 3+4+5 packages
over the years with these debian packages.
in summary the change to znuny "original" is easy. Dump your database and backup the data and do the installation/migration by the znuny docs

I would also recommend you to switch away from the debian maintained packages.pidilandia wrote: ↑04 Jun 2025, 16:31 Hi everyone,

Also consider using ubuntu as of longer support on the LTS versions and often also more modern packages. But debian and ubuntu are nearly equivallent.
So my suggestion:
- go back to the last stable version your have, afaik 5.0.16
- now switch to the vanialla package https://download.znuny.org/releases/ or https://download.znuny.org/releases/otrs-5.0.16.tar.gz
- since the codebase is identical, you shall not need any db changes or anything else
=> your first savepoint and testpoint, test it thouroughly and test it afterwards also on production thourughly a few days.
- if with was successful, move ahead by upgrade to latest 5.0.x version
=> you may imaging

In the past I helped on a article and it will help you to upgrade the next paths:
"Trouble-free from OTRS 5 to OTRS/Znuny 6" if you google for it, you will probably find it.
- in the above article is a doc named, which tells how to migrate from centos to ubuntu. You can use it also as a reference if you stay on debian which is showing the relevant stepss
you are welcome to give feedback so I can let the online article update.

Re: From otrs 6.0.24 to Znuny 6.0.31
Hi everyone,
Thanks a lot for your feedback — it was very helpful!
I managed to complete the upgrade by moving the OTRS directory from /usr/share/otrs to /opt/otrs, as recommended. I now have Znuny 6.2.2 running successfully.
However, I'm running into an issue while trying to upgrade to Znuny 6.3. After completing the upgrade steps, the login page no longer works — the login button becomes unclickable, and I'm unable to access the system via the web interface.
Has anyone encountered this behavior after upgrading to Znuny 6.3?
Any advice on how to fix this or what to check would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks again,
Pidi
