installing otrs

i have been using otrs on our local network to help me track issues. The IT dept has moved to cloud computing and am thinking of hosting OTRS there. its on unix has Apache/2.2.17 , mysql and has the option for installing perl modules. I was thinking with this i can be able to host otrs but i dont know exactly how to go about it.

my idea was unzipping the otrs, installing the perl mdules, then use the installer.pl to set up the database.

any ideas, corrections or links on how to go about it greatly appreciated.

have a look at the Admin Book and the Install File in the OTRS Main Directory. For some Distributions there are also rpm files available

I am new to all this. I have only been working with windows.

for the new service i have shell access to the server. How do I know what package to install?

this is depending on your Linux distribution. Please ask the admin of the linux box for assistance...
