Blade server - Blade Centre CI relationship

Post by eneless »

Finally getting my head round configuring my CMDB and liking it more and more.

curently defining hardware relationships. We have a number of blade centres chassis each with 16 blade servers. I have created a hardware type CI for blade centre chassis. Obv the blade servers will fall under a computer CI. However, each blade server belongs to a chassis (the relationship for which I can easily create) but I wish to define which "slot number" in the chassis each server occupies.

Any ideas as to how I might do this?

thanks as always...

For example, create CI class Location and input your chassis in it as location with 16 slots and then, link every blade server to this location - as idea :?

so something like: -
data centre CI (location) > Rack CI (location) > Blade chassis CI (hardware) > blade slot CI (location) > blade server CI (computer) ??

It is logical, but difficult. You must look on the understanding what goals you are pursuing to create such a structure - the visibility, accountability. Can be made smaller nesting levels, but one of them an opportunity to make several copies of a subclass of, by analogy with computers - up to 16 CPU.

The only issue I have with this is that I would have to create as many slot locations as there are blade servers. even though a blade centre has 16 slots, I have more than one blade centre, so would need to create a different CI for each slot on each blade centre.

seems long winded :(
