Migrating from a Debian package

Post by sjbforpresident »

Hi,
Has anybody here upgraded their OTRS frameworks on Debian from the old Debian package (I think the latest version is 2.2.7) to a more recent one? My problem is that package contains settings such as the home folder in the Config.pm file that are completely different to those in the tarball, making upgrading a small nightmare. I'm getting errors all over the place on matter what I try, mainly related to the change in settings from the package to the source files. Has anyone been here and have a list of procedures to follow and settings to watch out for when upgrading?

I'm running a Debian Lenny virtual server with the OTRS 2.2.7 package. I'm hoping to eventually get the latest version of OTRS with ITSM on the same server containing all the historical information in the old database for statistical purposes.

Any help would be more than appreciated!

Hi,

I would try to switch from the Debian package to the tarball with your current version before upgrading the system. The old version can be found here http://ftp.otrs.org/pub/otrs/.
- Read the UPGRADING file which data has to be saved
- Install the tarball version 2.2.7 and restore your data
- Upgrade from your 2.2.7 to the current 3.0.7, I recommend one major version after the other (2.2.7 -> 2.3.6 etc)

Good luck!
Roy

P.S.: from Debian package 2.2.7 to tarbal 2.2.7 you don't have to run the database change scripts ;-)
