Remove ">" from Agent Note Text

I created a notification that emails the customer the agent response when the note type is note-external. The customer then receives the email, but the agent notes are preceded by ">", leading the recipient to believe the agent response is part of a previous email. Pretty confusing to say the least. How can I remove that from the email?
