Hi
I am a SysAdmin and already using OTRS Helpdesk 3.0, with tickets received only through emails (helpdesk is only for internal purpose)
How do I go about using the ITSM feature of OTRS for basic asset management ?? All I want is, to import data from inventory tools like Lansweeper, spiceworks, etc into otrs database and keep it updated (manually) there after.
The data I am looking for is
computer:
Tag no, owner/vendor, FQDN, IP address, OS, OS license, current user(linked to tickets through email ID), applications, licenses for applications (if any), Hardware (Processor, RAM, Monitor, HDD,etc)
i have already searched many forums and blogs and most of them have setup details for help-desk, nothing related to the ITSM module.
Any help will be appreciated.
(Note: I am starting from scratch for this asset management, I am not trained on ITIL)

Re: OTRS for basic IT Asset management
Hi!
Read at first OTRS:ITSM manual on otrs.org about CMDB & Configuration Management conception. Then install ITSM bundle. Give to admin rw rights in itsm_xxx groups, that appear after installation. See General Catalog settings & examples in Admin Area. After settings in General Catalog class descriptions & creating definitions you can create and view Configuration Items in CMDB menu.
As my bad English & russian localisation, I don't remember right names of some menu items, see in AdminArea. Impotr/Export option give you an instruments to load CI's from another systems.
