performance of OTRS

Post by tina »

hi,
I installed OTRS in my computer and we are two who use it,
but I find it slow and I do not know because of what.
my question is that after I install OTRS for a company where 50 people will use it, is it going to slow it down even more?
configuration of the pc I use:
Windows 7
4GB RAM
CPU 3.30GHz

OTRS should be installed on a dedicated server. Windows compared to Linux is much slower....
"Production": OTRS™ 8, OTRS™ 7, STORM powered by OTRS
"Testing": ((OTRS Community Edition)) and git Master

There are many factors that influence the performance of a system, never mind a complex software package like OTRS. If you are quite new to sizing systems appropriately and installing software for business use then I would very much recommend to seek help from any IT staff in your organisation.

If you can't do this, or you are a one person shop, then I'm afraid you'll need to go on a learning curve by reading the OTRS documentation: http://doc.otrs.org/3.1/en/html/ and about system performance in general. Each of the components of OTRS (eg database, webserver) has its own very individual performance requirements.

It sounds like your main issue is the underlying hardware (eg computer) you are running OTRS on. If you've installed it on a standard desktop, then the performance will most likely be poor due to the slow generic SATA disk and non-server grade CPU.

If 50 people will be actively using your install, then a dedicated server is mandatory - we have less users than that and employ a powerful server with multi-core CPU's, RAID disk array, and a large amount of RAM to ensure fast response and for long-term capacity-sizing.
Backend: OTRS 3.0.11 RedHat Enterprise Linux 6.2, Apache, MySQL with replication
Frontend: OTRS 3.0.11 RedHat Enterprise Linux 6.2 with SELinux, Apache SSL
