use the tar file from ftp.otrs.org

I suggest to use an ubuntu instance. Depending on the sizing of your system you should start with a Medium Instance

Just in case you still need help installing on Amazon AWS.

I run this on a small instance, micro can not cope and back of the Mysql to the RDS services of AWS.
