ViewItemConfigSearch not displaying fields

Hello, I found the place to add fields to be displayed to the config item search view results. The problem is, it is not displaying the fields other than what already came with the default setup. The system default fields, you can set a value of 0 or 1 to show them but when I add my new customer fields, it is ignored. Is there a special syntax for writing them? I've tried it with and without ' '. I've togged the system default fields from 1 to 0 and back, and they are displaying correctly so I know I am in the right place. Any help? Thanks.
