Problems with otrs-3.2.6-win-installer-3.0.0-beta2.exe

Post by bayerex »

Ok, what is going on with this installer? It does not work. I've just tried it on a blank Win7Pro desktop (with all updates installed). Before running the installer I began with the following:

Microsoft .Net 4 Client Profile
Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable x86

When I ran the installer it completed without errors and installed everything except the Apache service. When I tried to create the service manually (httpd.exe -k install -n "Apache") it errored: "...MSVCR100.DLL not installed..".

In order to resolve the above error I had to install Visual C++ 2010 SP1 Redistributable Package x86. Should this not be included as part of the installer, or at least check and indicate this is required during the install of OTRS?

I was then able to run localhost/otrs/installer.pl but it only gets as far as Step 2. Database Setttings. Perhaps there's a problem with MySQL but it's running and I can log into it via command line.

Thanks...Bayerex

Starting the installer once again from the beginning. This time with the following pre-installed:

ActivePerl 5.16.3 (x86)
Visual C++ 2008 (x86)
Visual C++ 2010 (x86)
Microsoft .Net Framework 4 Client Profile

The install once again completes "Successfully", click Finish, no Apache rather somehow IIS has been started. Localhost/otrs/installer.pl doesn't work at all (iisstart does however work).

Yes, IIS has started, it loads the standard page when browsing "localhost" i.e. 'iisstart'.

I don't understand what I'm to expect here. Am I now working with IIS or Apache? Why am I so poorly informed during the process? Why is there so little information on otrs.com about these changes or even how to install it on Windows.

stop IIS and start Apache.
OTRS 6.0.x (private/testing/public) on Linux with MySQL database.

you hve to choose during the install process. Note this is a beta installer, it works with apache or IIS

There is another installer provding apache.

For production systems with more than 10 users you should use Linux

there is no apache directory or service. This installer seems to be have been built with only IIS in mind but somehow lost the plot along the way

I guess you haven't tried this one out on windows yourself. No it doesn't give you an option "Apache or IIS".
Basically if you choose to install the included Perl (not recommended for production systems, it says) then it installs Apache, however what it does not tell you is this will not work unless you have Visual C++ 2010 installed (see above).
If you choose to install the recomended ActivePerl then it attempts to configure OTRS for IIS but it simply doesn't work

Yes I agree the long term route will be to migrate to Linux. Windows as a webserver is put politely...rubbish and noone seems to care to investing much time into it when it comes to web apps.

Damn even using otrs-3.2.6-win-installer-2.4.7.exe I get problems right from the start! See below errors.

thsi seems to be a server (windows) issue then. the normal installer works like a charm.
