Migrate from Linux 3.0.10 to Windows 3.3.3
Hi All,
I am new to OTRS and have been tasked with migrating our current installation from FreeBSD on VMware to Windows on Hyper-V
I have created my Windows server, installed OTRS using the 3.3.3 windows installer.
Now where I need help...
I have no idea how to migrate the database from the FreeBSD MySQL to the Windows MySQL instance. Would anyone be willing to help? Also, I would love to document the process and post it up here for others who may run into this.
Looking forward to your replies and thanks in advance.

The proper way would be to:westlincoln wrote:I am new to OTRS and have been tasked with migrating our current installation from FreeBSD on VMware to Windows on Hyper-V
I have created my Windows server, installed OTRS using the 3.3.3 windows installer.
Backup the database and configs, upgrade 3.0->3.1.latest->3.2.latest->3.3.latest, each time following the UPGRADE instructions for each release, verifying the upgrade works, backup configs and database at that step and moving to the next step, then a final backup of database and configs (and any filesystem attachments, if exists) and port them to the new install on Windows by database recovery and filesystem copy.
There's more to it, though, but this will get you closer. Note that you'll need to run .sql DBUpdates AND .pl updates at each step.
OTRS 6.0.x (private/testing/public) on Linux with MySQL database.

Actually, he's right (Based on my experience)danny0312 wrote:Very nice and "informative" reply from a moderator.....jojo wrote:really bad idea to switch form *NIX to windows!
I went from from running OTRS on Windows 7 x64 (6gb mem) to OpenSUSE 11 and Ubuntu (2gb mem)... Performance increase was amazing! I'd never go back to running OTRS on a Windows platform.

I agree. Of course, OTRS was written in perl so it would perform better on *NIX systems than Windows. I was just referring to the explanation, which doesn't really answers the question that was asked!

Why should I answer the question? As I said you should not switch from *NIX to Windows. So why should I tell you how to make yourself and your users unhappy?

Well, this is not an offical support forum.
You'll get answers by a lot of people using OTRS. Some of the answers might be wrong, some of the persons might not have deep enough knowledge to give the right answer.

Yeah you right and I understand that. I am just trying to implement this feature (agent notification on a new ticket), have done everything to enable it and it doesn't work

It is not? Well I actually thought it is. When I try to go to forums.otrs.org it automatically redirect to this one. I though it is an official one.jojo wrote:Well, this is not an offical support forum.
