We currently have OTRS 3.2.2 on a Windows 2008R2 Server. Lately we are having a lot of stability issues, we're getting a lot of javascript/AJAX errors, the OTRS pages need to be refreshed a lot to make them responsive again, etc etc.
We have used OTRS for a year now and we really love all of its functionalities. I do think though, a linux version will be more stable. Also, when having issues or problems, I always find the linux solution online first. The only thing that's stopping me is my poor experience with linux, I have used Ubuntu for 1 year on my home workstation, and learned a bit about it in college.
I would like to start from scratch configuration-wise but I think my boss will demand to import the old tickets. Is this possible?
The server will be installed as a virtual server in VMWare. Which Linux distro do you recommend? Rightnow I installed OpenSuse 13.1 (Bottle) 64 Bit with Gnome 3.10.1 but I already ran into some problems networkcard-wise... It seems like it cannot connect to the network because it doesn't recognize the VMWare network card... Anyway, this was just as a test, what do you guys recommend?
ps: anyone knows how long http://wiki.otrs.org/ will be down?

Try an appliance, for one (this won't immediately help you convert, but gets you most of the way there.)
OTRS 6.0.x (private/testing/public) on Linux with MySQL database.

Re: upgrade from windows to linux
I just loaded and launched the appliance. Can I import the old tickets here?
And if I need to change some code for example to the javaScript of the clientside of the form, is that possible? or change the logo of OTRS?

Not exactly, but you should be able to upgrade your database ...SantaPe wrote:Can I import the old tickets here?
In theory, yes ... I'm assuming the .iso is doing an install and not running as a "live cd".SantaPe wrote:And if I need to change some code for example to the javaScript of the clientside of the form, is that possible? or change the logo of OTRS?

Re: upgrade from windows to linux
Yes it is an install since it's still working after I unmounted the iso from VMWare. Do I need to use the shell and commandline to upgrade the database and make these changes to the logo then?
Can you point me somewhere?

Re: upgrade from windows to linux
but the appliance is already installed with the latests OTRS version and database..
I would think I need would need to export the tickets from OTRS 3.2 on Windows and import them on the OTRS 3.3 appliance.

You can't export and import only the tickets.SantaPe wrote:but the appliance is already installed with the latests OTRS version and database..

You have to export and import the whole database.
But first of all you have to update your current OTRS to version 3.3.
Otherwise the import into your OTRS 3.3 appliance will fail.
