OTRS Email Question...
i have a hosted domain and am considering hosting it myslef self rather than husing my host company. my question is if i am hosting otrs myself is it possible to set it to use my hosted domain's email server or do i have to set up a email server locally?

you don't have to host email yourself.
OTRS 6.0.x (private/testing/public) on Linux with MySQL database.

In the Postmaster settings and the Sendmail settings you can specify the mail server's fqdn, which can be anywhere!
OTRS: 3.0.9 & ITSM 3.0.4 - OS: Windows 7 - DB: MySQL - Heaps of random/useful hacks
