I believe that OTRS sets the state to closed successfully when forwarding a ticket, I have seen this to be the case in every queue in my system. From time to time we have to forward a ticket outside of OTRS, and I can see issues with tickets being accidentally being closed consistently due to someone forgetting to change the status. Is there a way to change the default ticket state when forwarding a ticket?

yes, that can be done via editing the default state for the Forwarding Interface in the sysconfig (Ticket -> Frontend::Agent::Ticket::ViewForward)
