update "change" state without using condition

THe only way i learned is using "condition". I have to create several "work orders" and then, use condition of the work orders to change the status of the change.

Is there a easier way to update the status of a change? any way other than using "condition"?

Using condition to update the status of a change make the state machine of a change useless...
