open tickets graph in dashboard or reporting

In the status view there is a number of open tickets, I would like to graph this (avg daily) on the dashboard or in reporting

I looked for hours now but I am not sure if this even possible, does anyone know this is possible without going inside the database with an external reporting tool?
lamp, OTRS 3.0.latest:ITSM 3.latest (keeping up to date)
