Create a new field in "Add Agent"

hi, i'm following this tutorial to insert a "phone number" field in agent..
its will insert phone number in user_preferences table.

the question is, how do i put the phone numbers field into "users" table instead of "user_preferences" table??

thats not possible without recoding

the main purpose is I want to adding a field called "Phone" in Add Agent..
so i will look like same as customer template (which is has a "phone" field.)

this is only possible via user_preferences
