Hi
We have OTRS 3.x installed along with kix4otrs
We are trying to add some functionality to it. We have the faq installed, howver we would like to set it up to have
FAQ (general access)
FAQ X Customer
FAQ X Customer
So that we can maintain a faq per customer on the same system without other customers being able to see specific data , only there own and general faq data
Is there anyway to set that up?

It may be possible (haven't tried it) with CustomerGroup support enabled and customer group(s) applied to permissions for the category.
OTRS 6.0.x (private/testing/public) on Linux with MySQL database.

Add customers to customer groups? Admin
Set permissions on FAQ Category? FAQ Category Management, choose category.

where in sysconfig to enable the customer group support?
we have groups and faqs set to customer etc , we but it doesnt appear to be working security wise, so maybe enabling customer group support like you suggested will fix the issue

Type Customer Group in the search box of SysConfig. You might be surprised.
