Search panel not showing - SOLVED

Greetings!
I'm running OTRS 3.0.8 on a debian based system; actually, up to a few days ago I was still using OTRS 3.0.1.

Clicking on the "search" button does not bring up the search panel: the rotating wheel appears for a few seconds, and thereafter nothing happens (except for a tiny 1% of times, when the search panel actually appears).

Have you got any hints?
The error log does not show anything...

Ok, Firebug helped me sort it out.
My mistake, obviously.

I followed the upgrade guide, backing up var/*.
But then I restored too much... instead of sticking to var/articles, I also restored the httpd directory, and that was the source of all my issues.
